About Dr. Diaz, M.D.
Dr. Carlos M. Diaz is a patient-centered Board Certified Psychiatrist that emphasizes compassionate and culturally-literate patient care. He is licensed to treat adults, children, and adolescents with a wide range of psychiatric diagnoses.
Dr. Diaz’s unique perspective centers around the belief that some patients have physiological psychiatric issues and some face challenges in areas of life that affects their physiology. He takes pride in empowering his patients to reach their full potential, recognizing that they personally possess the inner strength to overcome obstacles, both physiologically and psychologically.
A native New Yorker, Dr. Diaz obtained his medical degree from the American University of Antigua, completed his psychiatry residency in Miami, FL, and graduated from his fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of South Alabama in Mobile, AL. He fell in love with Mobile as a former psychiatrist at Altapointe Health.

Our approach to care
Life Psychiatry implements a three-part mental health treatment process:
Step 1: Evaluation
As a new patient, we will take the time to get to know you thoroughly. We will have an in-depth conversation about your history, background, past experiences, and challenges. Through a series of questions and assessments, we aim to understand how your body and brain function. We work with both children and adults and provide high-quality care to all patients.
Step 2: Diagnosis & Treatment
With a clinical diagnosis, we can create a customized treatment plan that is tailored to your unique needs and experiences. Dr. Diaz employs medication only when necessary, taking the time to explain its physiological effects and collaborating with you to ensure it aligns with your psychiatric goals. Paired with cognitive behavioral therapy, counseling, and real-talk to get to the root of issues, we will see healing and progress toward a better future.
Step 3: Maintenance
All patients are different and will see progress over different timeframes but it’s through regular medication management (if needed) and counseling that we can measure your progress and improvement over time.
Our goal is to get you living your best life — so good that you never have to come back to see us at Life Psychiatry!
Why Life Psychiatry?
During challenging times, it can be beneficial to seek support from a trusted medical doctor like Dr. Diaz, a board-certified psychiatrist, and a team of medical professionals. Together, we can help you navigate the complexities of your current life season and provide guidance and support to help you find your way through difficulties.
Just as nature experiences distinct seasons — spring, summer, fall, and winter — we all encounter seasons of personal struggle, feeling stuck, or frustrated in relationships (or even with ourselves). Seeking help during these challenging times is not a sign of failure or a lack of faith. Instead, it reflects a recognition of our human vulnerability and a need for God’s guidance and healing touch.
Our purpose
1. To bring about positive change in the Mobile community by providing individualized care and focusing on healing one patient at a time.
2. To be an emotionally healthy community that promotes self-love and compassion among our patients, their families, and our staff
3. To empower our patients to maximize their potential and become agents of healing within their families and communities.
