Overview of Position

  • Position Type: Part-time (20 hrs) starting in February/March 2024 with growth into full-time (30-40 hrs) around March or April 2024 
  • Department/Location: Life Psychiatry outpatient clinic in Mobile, Alabama 
  • Hours: 20 hours starting
  • Per Hour Rate of Pay: Contract position; rate depending on experience
  • Benefits: As a contract role, this position is not eligible for benefits. If transitions into a full time employee role, the position will be eligible for medical benefits.

Education and Experience

  • Must be licensed as a LMFT, LICSW or LPC in Alabama with a master’s degree in Counseling from an accredited college or university. Minimum of 1 year of experience providing trauma-informed treatments. Must complete all Life Psychiatry’s training including Trauma Informed Trainings, Strengths Based Approach, Neurobiological Responses to Trauma.

Summary of Job Qualifications

  • As a Licensed Clinical Counselor at Life Psychiatry, you will be a key member of the patient care team, working closely alongside Dr. Diaz, nurse practitioners, and administrative staff. You will be responsible for providing individual therapy, family therapy, case management, and mental health intakes and assessments. This position requires having a positive, trusting rapport with clients; excellent communication skills; and the ability to focus in a fast paced environment.

  • Life Psychiatry, LLC is a psychiatric medical clinic located in Mobile, AL that treats adults, children and adolescents with a wide range of diagnoses. Life Psychiatry specializes in evidence-based, trauma-informed mental health services. At Life, we take pride in our clinic and strive to honor our patients with a safe and friendly experience. 
  • Dr. Carlos Melvin Diaz is a patient-centered Board Certified Psychiatrist with over 15 years of medical experience providing compassionate and culturally-literate patient care. Dr. Diaz aims to empower patients to reach their full potential and become healers in their communities.

Job Responsibilities (include but are not limited to)

  • Participate and collaborate with the Life Psychiatry team in order to deliver an integrative and holistic experience for patients
  • Establishes a positive, trusting rapport with clients
  • Creates individualized treatment plans according to patient needs and circumstances
  • Meets with patients regularly to provide counseling, treatment and adjust treatment plans as necessary
  • Involves and advises family members when appropriate
  • Refers patients to outside specialists or agencies when necessary
  • Follows all safety protocols
  • Maintains client confidentiality
  • Manages counseling and practice administrative duties 
  • Contributes to practice by accomplishing related tasks as needed

Other Qualifications

  • Satisfactory preliminary criminal history background check
  • Never have been shown by credible evidence (such as a decision of a court or jury, or a department investigation or other reliable evidence) to have abused, neglected, sexually exploited, or deprived a child or adult or to have subjected any person to serious injury as a result of intentional or grossly serious injury
  • Documentation of at least two professional, educational, or personal references that attest to the person’s capability of performing the duties of the position and to the person’s suitability of working with or around children
