- Rate of Pay: Rate is dependent on clients seen and experience
Education and Experience
- Must be licensed as a LMFT, LICSW or LPC in Alabama with a master’s degree in Counseling from an accredited college or university. Fully licensed new-graduates are welcome to apply.
Summary of Job Qualifications
- As a Licensed Counselor/Therapist at Life Psychiatry, you will be a key member of the patient care team, working closely alongside Dr. Diaz, nurse practitioners, other counselors/therapists, and administrative staff. You will be responsible for conducting mental health intakes and assessments, working alongside Dr. Diaz and other clinicians to diagnose and create treatment plans for clients, and providing individual therapy, family therapy, and case management. This position requires having a positive, trusting rapport with clients; excellent communication skills; a team-focused attitude; and the ability to focus in a fast-paced environment.

- Dr. Carlos Melvin Diaz is a patient-centered Board Certified Psychiatrist with over 15 years of medical experience providing compassionate and culturally-literate patient care. Dr. Diaz aims to empower patients to reach their full potential.
Teamwork focus
- “Teamwork” is central to the approach Dr. Diaz and his staff take in delivering mental health services at Life Psychiatry. You’ll have direct access to a board-certified psychiatrist who will guide you through the medical and psychiatric principles behind various behavioral health diagnoses, as well as the uses and risks associated with psychiatric medications, and important factors to consider with prescriptions. Your input will be valued in client diagnoses, and you’ll collaborate with the team to provide exceptional counseling and psychiatric care to patients and their families. Job Responsibilities (include but are not limited to)
- Participate and collaborate with the Life Psychiatry team in order to deliver an integrative and holistic experience for clients
- Conduct in-depth mental health intakes
- Ability to write high-quality initial mental health assessments in a structured, templated paragraph format (these can be up to 2-3 pages long)
- Work closely with Dr. Diaz and other clinicians to diagnose and create individualized treatment plans according to clients needs and circumstances
- Establish a positive, trusting rapport with clients
- Meet with clients regularly to provide counseling, treatment and adjust treatment plans as necessary
- Involve and advise family members when appropriate
- Refer clients to outside specialists or agencies when necessary
- Follow all safety protocols
- Maintain client confidentiality
- Manage counseling and practice administrative duties
- Contribute to the practice’s culture of helpfulness, inclusivity, and respect for each other and our clients
What you can expect
- As a medical practice, we have numerous people becoming new patients every day and you will be the first line of care in establishing them as patients through in-depth mental health intakes and assessments
- Psychiatric intakes and counseling clients will be assigned to you according to your schedule and you will not be required to obtain your own clients (although you are welcome to do so and/or onboard your established clients to Life Psychiatry for continued care)
- At no cost, you will be provided with: Furnished office space for meeting clients, access to our electronic health records system (EHR), company email and workspace account, credentialing support, insurance claims billing, shared office supplies; and a full-time front desk staff for scheduling and administrative support

Other Qualifications
- Satisfactory preliminary criminal history background check
- Never have been shown by credible evidence (such as a decision of a court or jury, or a department investigation or other reliable evidence) to have abused, neglected, sexually exploited, or deprived a child or adult or to have subjected any person to serious injury as a result of intentional or grossly serious injury
- Documentation of at least two professional, educational, or personal references that attest to the person’s capability of performing the duties of the position and to the person’s suitability of working with or around children
